
Clancy Ellis
Praised for eliciting “supple phrasing, dynamics, and tempi” (The Boston Musical Intelligencer), Clancy Ellis is an orchestra and opera conductor based in Boston, MA. He currently assists David Angus at the Boston Lyric Opera and previously served as Assistant Conductor of the Glimmerglass Opera Festival. As a Conducting Fellow with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, he worked closely with Music Director JoAnn Falletta and debuted with the orchestra in 2023.
Ellis has been invited to participate in music festivals throughout the United States in Europe. He is a 2026 Conducting Fellow at the Bellingham Festival of Music, and recently conducted the Mondego International Music Academy Orchestra under the mentorship of Gustavo Gimeno. Passionately interested in opera, he conducted Carmen at the Vienna Opera Festival and Gianni Schicchi with the NEC Opera. He was chosen by Riccardo Muti as one of four conductors to study and conduct Bellini’s Norma in Milan for the Riccardo Muti Opera Academy.
Ellis has prepared conservatory orchestras for renowned conductors such as Leonard Slatkin and Anthony Parnther. He holds conducting degrees from the Mannes School of Music and the New England Conservatory. His mentors include Hugh Wolff, Stefan Asbury, and David Hayes.
